Ms. Becker grew up in the Midwest and began her journey in the field of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she earned degrees in Elementary Education as well as Spanish. Studying abroad in Ecuador was one highlight of her college experience. After graduation, she moved to California in search of a better climate, and began her teaching career in the San Diego public schools. There she gained six valuable years of experience teaching both kindergarten and second grade. With a primary focus on literacy and teaching strategies that target the needs of English Language Learners, her goal as an educator has always been to help close the achievement gap in traditionally under-performing neighborhoods. She has a strong belief that all children are capable of academic success and deserve the opportunity to receive an outstanding education. Ms. Becker was thrilled to move to Los Angeles and join the Equitas team in 2013. In her role as a literacy teacher she has the privilege of working with scholars to achieve their goals in both reading and writing. She feels very lucky to have the opportunity to be a part of a charter school like Equitas where professional collaboration, positivity, and high expectations for student success permeate the school environment at all times.
