Ms. Tornquist is overjoyed to start her third year at Equitas Academy: a school where excellence is not just a far-fetched ideal, but something that is achieved every day in each and every scholar and teacher on campus. She was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona and graduated in 2013 from the University of Arizona with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. In her first years, she taught in two very different school environments. These different teaching experiences made her aware of where her true passion lies – in serving students who have traditionally underperformed and beating those stereotypes together. The University of Arizona Wildcats have a saying, “Bear Down,” which means work hard even when the going gets tough, push through, show grit and never give up. Ms. Tornquist promises to “bear down” and be the best that she can be for her scholars, day in and day out, in hopes that it inspires them to bring their 'A' game not only into the classroom, but into every aspect of their lives. In the years to come, she hopes to go back to school for a master’s degree in the field of education, run a half marathon and get a puppy (or two) of her own!
